Taxonomic revision of the batesi species group of Dichotomius Hope, 1838, with the description of three new Amazonian species (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Scarabaeinae)

Abstract Dichotomius ( Selenocopris ) is amongst the most diverse subgenera of Hope, 1838. Due to scarcity material and logistical problems experienced by previous authors access type specimens, available taxonomic information for batesi group mainly short superficial original descriptions its species. In this paper, we provide a revision all species assigned comparative study with belonging taxonomically related groups, namely: agenor , geminatus inachus carbonarius lucasi . The redefined include five Amazonian species: D. ziliolii snethlageae sp. nov. martavannucciae leopoldinae globulus proposed remaining formerly included in group; these occur from Costa Rica northern Amazonia. parcepunctatus fortestriatus are considered new synonyms Distribution data an identification key provided group.
